More ways to find directories
You can use other methods to track down specialty directories. In fact, as you get to know the Internet landscape around your business, you’ll run into these directories eventually. People mention them in discussion groups, for instance, or you’ll find links to them on other Web sites. I also like browsing for these directories in the major directories, Yahoo! And the Open Directory Project. Yahoo! Directory (dir.yahoo.com) has many subcategories for directories. It doesn’t have one for rodent racing, which
Apparently gets no respect, but it certainly has directories for many other topics,
such as the following:Photography > Web Directories
Radio Stations > Web Directories
Arts > Web Directories
Transgendered > Web Directories
Comics and Animations > Web Directories
Travel and Transportation > Directories
Business and Economy > Directories
Reference > Directories
Haunted Houses > Directories
Ethnic Studies > Directories
and one of the resulting links will be to Haunted Houses > Directories.
Yahoo! currently has almost 1,400 of these directory subcategories, representing many thousands of directory Web sites. I found links to 13 directories of haunted houses (a number that one might almost imagine is intentional); 13 directories of humor sites; 9 directories of sites related to transgendering; 7 directories of sites that provide electronic greeting cards; and 6 directories of fitness Web sites.
This grossly unscientific survey suggests to me that probably almost 14,000 directory sites are listed in Yahoo! So chances are good that several may be good candidates for listing your site. The Open Directory Project also lists thousands of directories.

In general the Web Directory can be defined as the directory on the World Wide Web. The most important aspect is that it links to other websites and categorizes those links effectively.
